When the temperatures start to climb, most of us know the importance of drinking plenty of water.

Staying hydrated helps our bodies regulate temperature, supports energy levels, and keeps us feeling our best during hot weather. But while reaching for a glass of water is the obvious answer, it's easy to forget that many of the foods we eat can help contribute to our hydration too.

In fact, some of the best summer ingredients are naturally packed with water. Cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, leafy greens and peppers all contain a high percentage of water, making them perfect ingredients for hot-weather meals.

That's one of the reasons we love salads at this time of year. They're fresh, easy to prepare, and a great way to enjoy seasonal produce while helping to keep hydrated.

Here are three of our favourite summer salads, all featuring ingredients with a naturally high water content and plenty of flavour.

Tomato Salad with Balsamic Dressing

Few things say summer quite like ripe tomatoes.

Tomatoes are naturally rich in water and pair beautifully with our Oak Aged Balsamic Dressing, which adds a rich, fruity depth to every bite.

Ingredients

4–5 tbsp Balsamic Dressing

150g cherry tomatoes, halved

½ onion (red or white), sliced

1–2 tbsp fresh parsley

½ cucumber, sliced

Kalamata olives

35g feta cheese, crumbled

Method

Add all the ingredients to a large bowl and drizzle generously with Balsamic Dressing.

Serve with crusty bread to soak up the delicious juices.

Watermelon & Feta Salad with Raspberry & Mint Dressing

If there was ever a salad designed for a heatwave, this might be it.

Watermelon is made up of more than 90% water, making it one of the most refreshing ingredients you can eat on a hot day. Combined with cool cucumber, fresh mint and creamy feta, it's a perfect balance of sweet and savoury.

Ingredients

1 red onion, thinly sliced

4–5 tbsp Raspberry & Mint Dressing

½ watermelon (or 1 small watermelon)

1 cucumber, peeled

½ bunch fresh mint, roughly chopped

200g feta cheese, crumbled

Salt and pepper

Method

Place the onion in a large bowl and toss with a little Raspberry & Mint Dressing. Leave to soften for around 10 minutes.

Cut the watermelon into bite-sized chunks and chop the cucumber into slightly smaller pieces.

Add both to the bowl along with the remaining dressing, mint and feta. Toss gently and serve immediately.

Cucumber Salad with Mediterranean Garlic Dressing

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the most refreshing. Cucumber is around 95% water, making it one of the most hydrating vegetables you can eat. Combined with our Mediterranean Garlic Dressing, it becomes an effortless side dish for barbecues, lunches or light suppers.

More Easy Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

While water should always be your first choice during hot weather, there are plenty of simple ways to increase your hydration through food too.

Add extra cucumber to almost everything

Whether you're making a green salad, grain bowl or sandwich, cucumber is an easy way to boost hydration and add crunch.

Try it with our Mediterranean Garlic Dressing for a quick lunch that's full of flavour without feeling heavy.

Choose fruit-led dressings for summer salads

Our Orange & Ginger Dressing works beautifully with leafy greens, oranges and avocado, helping create fresh, vibrant salads that feel light and refreshing on warm days.

Keep cooking simple

When it's hot, nobody wants to spend hours in the kitchen. Use marinades like our Aromatic Italian or Moroccan Marinade to add flavour to vegetables before grilling or roasting. Pair with fresh salads and you'll have a balanced meal with minimal effort.

Think colour

Many of the most hydrating foods are also some of the most colourful. Watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and leafy greens all help create plates that are as vibrant as they are refreshing.

Summer Eating Made Simple

When the weather is warm, eating well doesn't need to be complicated. A few fresh ingredients, plenty of seasonal vegetables, and a flavour-packed dressing can transform simple produce into something delicious.

So while you're remembering to top up your water bottle, don't forget that your plate can help keep you refreshed too.

Here's to long summer days, simple meals, and making good food taste great.
